2017 Entrance Ceremony at Cambodia Satellite Campus

On 10 October 2017, Cambodia Satellite Campus held an entrance ceremony for its three successful applicants to the Transnational Doctoral Programs for Leading Professionals in Asian Countries at the Cambodia-Japan Cooperation Center (CJCC), Royal University of Phnom Penh. This event also marked the fourth anniversary of the campus.  

       

Brief profiles of our new students follow:

●　Ms. Kem Keothyda, Office Chief of Small and Medium Enterprise, Ministry of Women’s Affairs, is pursuing her Ph.D. degree in the field international development.
●　Mr. Tep Bungthay, Deputy Director, Department of Animal Health and Veterinary Public Health, General Directorate of Animal Health and Production, Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Fisheries, is pursuing his Ph.D. degree in the field of bio-agricultural sciences.
●　Ms. Ong Socheath, Deputy Head of Department of Crop Protection, Royal University of Agriculture, is pursuing her Ph.D. degree in the field of bio-agricultural sciences.

On this special occasion, Professor Fumio Isoda, Director of the Asian Satellite Campuses Institute, gave his keynote remarks to welcome the new students to the program. Professor Isoda asked the students to prepare for the challenges they may face but also provided an overview of the kinds of support the program provides to help them overcome such challenges. Also attending the ceremony as guests of honor were H.E. Dr. Ngo Bunthan, Rector of Royal University of Agriculture; Mr. Mey Hul, Deputy General Director of Administration, Ministry of Women’s Affairs; Mr. Hironori Suzuki, Counselor of the Embassy of Japan in Cambodia; Mr. Yumi Suzuki, first secretary of the Embassy of Japan in Cambodia; and Ms. Nami Kishida, Japan International Cooperation Agency.

  

Inaugurated in October 2014, the Cambodia Satellite Campus is one of six Nagoya University Asian Satellite Campuses offering the Transnational Doctoral Program for Leading Professionals in Asian Countries. This program aims to contribute to the development of human resources in Cambodia by focusing on high-ranking government officials and young professionals who will play a leading role in nation building. The Cambodia Satellite Campus currently has 13 students pursuing their Ph.D. studies and so far, one student has graduated from the program, receiving his doctorate through the Nagoya University Graduate School of Bioagricultural Sciences. At present, four fields of study are offered through the Cambodia Satellite Campus: International Development, Law, Bioagricultural Sciences, and Medical Science.
