The Entrance Ceremony 2020 for Mongolia Satellite Campus

On Wednesday, November 4, the 2020 Entrance Ceremony for Mongolia Satellite Campus (ASCI) was held online.  This year’s ceremony was held in a different format from those in previous years due to the need to avoid close-contact settings because of the second wave of the pandemic. The Director of ASCI, Professor Isoda Fumio, welcomed the new students and offered encouragement, which was followed by Vice President Kawakita Kazuhito’s congratulatory speech.
 
This year, the Mongolia Satellite Campus welcomed Mr. Luvsandorj as a new student in the Graduate School of Environmental Studies. Mr. Erdenebulgan is presently the Director-General of the Department of Green Development Policy and Planning at the Ministry of Environment and Tourism of Mongolia. The Minister of Environment and Tourism, Mr. Ts. Batbayar highlighted in his address that Mr. Erdenebulgan has been one of the leading professionals at the ministry and offered his congratulations and continued support. The Vice Minister also mentioned the successful implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding between Nagoya University and their ministry and commended the success of the Transnational Doctoral Program for Leading Professionals in Asian Countries of ASCI, Nagoya University. Currently, three professionals from the ministry pursue doctoral degrees at ASCI.
 
After this, the Counselor of the Embassy of Japan in Mongolia Mr. Hayashi Shinichiro, Professor Nishizawa Yasuhiko, the Dean of the Graduate School of Environmental Studies, and Mr. O. Khuyagtsogt, the Director of the Department of Public Administration and Management, Ministry of Education and Science of Mongolia congratulated　Mr. Erdenebulgan . Mrs. Saranchimeg, a member of the Mongolian Parliament and the head of the National Committee on Reducing Air Pollution, pointed out the importance of the theme of Mr. L. Erdenebulgan’s dissertation, “Reducing Water Pollution by Economic Incentives”.
 
Honorary Doctor of Nagoya University, S. Narangerel said in his speech that Mongolian society has already started seeing the results and effectiveness of the doctoral program at the Mongolia Satellite Campus. At present, according to him, the first graduate of the transnational doctoral program in Mongolia, Judge Ts. Tsogt, is now being considered to become a Supreme Court Justice.
 
Mr. L. Erdenebulgan, the newly enrolled student, said that “I am very happy to have this opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree at one of the best universities in the world. Currently, half of our national population reside in the capital city of Ulaanbaatar. As a result of this, water management has become the most problematic issue in Mongolia. I hope, under the guidance of my supervisor at Nagoya University, my research will contribute solving this urgent issue”.
 


The entrance ceremony was also attended by the President of the National University of Mongolia, Professor B. Ochikhuyag; the Dean of the School of International Relations and Public Administration, Professor S. Battulga; Vice Director of ASCI, Professor Yamauchi Akira; Vice Dean of the Graduate School of Environmental Studies, Professor Takahashi Makoto; Professor Yokoyama Satoshi, Designated Associate Professor Tomita Shinsuke; Ms. Kano Shiori, Attache at the Embassy of Japan in Mongolia; and other guests and current and former students of ASCI.
