Harvesting the Fruits: Alumni of Nagoya University Transnational Doctoral Program in Agricultural Science

There is no greater joy than tasting the sweet fruits of success. After years of hard work, balancing acts, and sacrifices, three Filipino alumni of the Nagoya University have moved up the career ladder in their own chosen profession.

Fresh from completing the doctoral program in bioagricultural science under the Nagoya University Transnational Doctoral Programs for Leading Professionals in Asian Countries, Dr. Thelma Almendral Saludes was recently promoted to the position of Regional Center Director of the Philippine Carabao Center (PCC) based at University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB).  Dr. Saludes was Senior Science Research Specialist of PCC when she started her doctoral program. Her scholarship was funded by Nagoya University and the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA), with research grant from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
 
Dr. Dennis Morgia Gilbero, former Science Research Analyst II of the Forest and Timber Resources Research Center of the Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) based in Butuan City, has been promoted to Senior Science Research Specialist after completing his doctoral program at NU.  He is now handling four research projects and two collaborative studies. His study program was funded by NU and SEARCA.
  
Dr. Ronilo De Castro, Science Research Specialist II of the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), is  a fine example of the quote “the prize of good work is more work,” as he has been given the higher responsibility in the R&D planning of Livestock & Poultry programs of the Center for funding of DOST-PCAARRD and as research manager of swine research projects after completing his doctoral program. He was recently awarded the John Dillon Fellowship by the Australian Center for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) for agricultural research projects. His research was funded by NU and SEARCA.
